Hello and thank you for stopping by! I am Democrat Chris Claypole and I am running for the West Virginia State Senate in district 2.
Hello and welcome. I'm Chris Claypole and I am running for the West Virginia State Senate in District 2. I am a typical native West Virginian born and raised in Monongalia county. I have resided in the small town of Mannington in Marion county with my wonderful wife and our three cats for just over a year, and enjoy the relative peacefulness of small town life. Of course it always helps when you have wonderful neighbors to make the experience that much more enjoyable.
I have split my professional life between commissioned sales and management of, and also working in the behavioral / mental health field. Having that experience in this area has afforded me a first hand look at the daily struggles that we all face. I have been in past situations where I had to choose what bills would get paid on time due to low paychecks, and had to go without medication and medical care because of a lack of coverage. I feel it is life experiences such as those that give me an insight to the common struggles that we as residents of this state face.
During my time away from work you will typically find me being the tinkerer that I was raised to be. My granddad instilled both the skills and the sense of self reliance to do my own repairs whenever possible. This has led me to buy a more than 100 year old home and renovate it to bring back its charm. If I am not doing that then you will probably catch me traveling around the state taking photographs of all the scenic spots we are lucky to have.
Education is the cornerstone of our society. Public education in our state has suffered for too long. It is in dire need of repair and proper funding to make it equal in access and achievements. Our teachers are woefully under compensated for the miracles that they perform on less than shoestring budgets. Standards for staffing ratios, classroom size, and a long list of other metrics need to be addressed and improved. Our state's children deserve the best opportunity we can provide.
Healthcare is a right of all people in West Virginia. Whether it be addressing the PEIA issues, in home care/nursing home care for our state's aging population, or the need for supplemental food programs we need to address the health and wellness needs of the people. Families across the state go without proper care due to financial burden. This must change for the better.
Our state is in serious need of proper infrastructure improvement. Our roads, water/sewage systems, electrical grid, and communications are all lagging behind not only our neighboring states but the rest of the country. We deserve clean water, no sewage backing up into our homes, affordable electricity, and reliable access to communication.
